About AAF Greenville

The American Advertising Federation of Greenville (AAF Greenville) is comprised of nearly 100 members who work in advertising, marketing, media, public relations and all other related industry businesses throughout Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson. As a chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the AAF Greenville encourages professional development through seminars, award presentations, networking and industry leader recognition. Our members have kept us thriving for nearly 60 years and have made Greenville the creative micro-Mecca that it is. Many superstars have cut their teeth on the Upstate market and made an indelible mark on the Greenville, as well as the national advertising map. We encourage you to do the same.

AAF Greenville members embrace the freedom-to-advertise principle, and seek to serve their industry and its membership through networking and socialization; addressing worthwhile causes through advertising; advancing professional standards; fostering education and advertising awareness for students, advertising professionals, elected officials and the public; defending advertising interests; protecting and promoting the industry’s self-regulatory process; and recognizing creative excellence in advertising.

AAF Greenville meets monthly from September through June. The meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday and include a lunch or evening hors d’oeuvres.  Gold and Silver members have meals included with the exception of the ADDY® Awards Gala. Bronze members operate on a pay as you go at the member level. AAF Greenville Member bronze, student and additional corporate attendee fees are $25 per program meeting or $35 for visitors excluding ADDY® Awards. Cash, Check or Visa/MasterCard accepted.

Committees

The Program Committee

  • Secure Speakers for membership meetings.
  • Contacting, confirming, accommodations as needed.
  • Publication of annual program brochure.
  • Negotiate meeting location and food arrangements.
  • Coordinate monthly meeting’s food and speakers.
  • Plan and coordinate monthly twist events.

The Membership Committee

  • Recruitment of new members.
  • Membership retention.
  • Peer recognition of current members.
  • Communicate benefits of AAFG membership to prospects and members.
  • Work with Secretary on membership roster, adding prospects, etc.
  • Host membership gatherings/socials.
  • Welcoming members/guests at meetings.

Education Chair and Committee Club/Public/Student Education

  • Encourages member companies to provide full or partial professional internships.
  • Sends letters to club members asking for internship opportunities before interviewing.
  • Sends letters to financial aid, scholarship, student service offices at Southeastern colleges and universities.
  • Reviews candidates for internship using prepared guidelines.
  • Reviews opportunities to match with scholarship recipient abilities.
  • Awards internship to recipient and member organization.
  • Prepares press release with secretary to announce recipients.

ADDY Committee

  • Determine date for event, location, and food.
  • Collateral materials – Call for Entry, Invitation to Gala, Winners Book, Program.
  • Call for entry day.
  • Notification of winners.
  • Preparation of winners for forwarding to district competition.

Public Service Chair and Committee

  • Determines nonprofit client.
  • Works with client to develop advertising/marketing plan.
  • Solicits donated services for advertising/marketing materials.
  • Prepares advertising/marketing materials.

Legislative Chair and Committee

  • Keeps abreast of area and national legislative actions involving advertising.
  • Formulates a list of club members with legislative contacts annually.
  • Keeps members informed on local, state and national legislative issues.
  • Gets to know local, state and federal representatives.
  • Leads a grassroots effort when called upon by the District Chair of AAF.
  • Attends all board and membership meeting, district conference in April, national conference in June as club finances allow.

Fundraising/Sponsorship Chair and Committee

  • Work with program committee to develop special event fundraisers.
  • Arrangements for special events, including food, location, volunteers, sponsors. etc.
  • Secures sponsorships for planned events.

Diversity Committee

  • To increase minority representation and leadership opportunities with AAFG.
  • Encourages member companies to provide full or partial diversity internships.
  • Sends letters to club members asking for internship opportunities before interviewing.
  • Sends letters to financial aid, scholarship, student service offices at Southeastern colleges and universities.
  • Reviews candidates for diversity internship using prepared guidelines.
  • Reviews opportunities to match with scholarship recipient abilities.
  • Awards internship to recipient and member organization.
  • Prepares press release with secretary to announce recipients.

Club Achievement Committee

  • Reviews and edits entries for all club achievement categories at the national level.
  • Collect information, collateral and photos on various club activities that would be included in one of the club achievement categories: (1) advertising education; (2) club management; (3) communications; (4) diversity; (5) government relations; (6) membership; (7) programs; and (8) public service/volunteerism.
  • Remind those responsible for submitting books of deadlines and have them submit rough drafts in early February.
  • Following  AAF guidelines, prepare and submit your entries to AAF. The entries are due in early March and winners are recognized at the national conference in June.

Publicity/Public Relations Committee (usually chaired by Secretary)

  • Upload all press releases for inclusion on the AAFG and 3rd District Websites.
  • Send monthly meeting announcement to local newspapers, radio, TV and calendars.
  • Send photos, meeting recaps to area and national advertising publications.
  • Prepare press releases to regularly promote the AAFG on a local, regional, and national basis via articles and photo.
  • Prepare and distribute release of all winners in ADDY competition to the local media.
